Garment Class :: My First Shorts
This class is for everyone who wants to make the classic summer staple of a nice pair of shorts, but maybe has never made pants before!
The patterns we've chosen are all pants patterns that are perfect for beginners, and can easily be adjusted to be shorts.
Our Garment Classes are all about making classic garments that build your sewing skills and your wardrobe at the same time.
- Pre-requisite: You have completed our Beginner Series, or have equivalent sewing experience.
- Project: You will choose from the following pants patterns:
- The Rose Pants from Made by Rae (pictured above)
- The Chanterelle Pants from Sew Liberated
- The Rambler Pants from Friday Pattern Co (designed for men)
- Materials needed (not included in class registration):
- your chosen pattern
- fabric and notions, as noted in the pattern
- machine needles appropriate for your fabric
- matching thread (100% polyester all-purpose)
- Swedish Tracing Paper
- Prep-work: pattern traced in your size, and fabric washed and dried
- Skills learned: basic shorts construction; sewing a waist band with facing and/or elastic; adjusting patterns for length; applying fusible interfacing; sewing slanted pockets; hemming.
This class will focus on construction. If you require fitting help, we recommend a private lesson before class begins.

Classes are for adults 18+
Cancellation Policy : Registrations are non-refundable; no refunds will be given. Any cancellations or changes to your registration must be done at least 72 hours prior to the class start date in order to be issued a class credit. Cancellations that are made less than 72 hours before the class start date and students who do not show up to class will forfeit their registration payment. By continuing with class registration, you acknowledge and agree to these terms.
