Garment Class :: The Matilda Shirt Dress

Our Garment Classes are all about making classic garments that build your sewing skills and your wardrobe at the same time!
- Pre-requisite: You have completed several garments on your own.
- Project: The Matilda Shirt Dress from Megan Nielsen (available in two size ranges, 0-20 and 14-34)
- Materials Needed:
- the Matilda pattern (included in class registration)
- light to medium weight woven fabric, plus notions as noted in the pattern
- universal machine needles in the appropriate size for your fabric
- matching thread (100% polyester all-purpose)
- Prep-work: pattern traced in your size, fabric washed and dried, and a basic bodice-only muslin complete on the first day
- Skills learned: fitting princess seams; creating pleated pockets and patch pockets; collars and collar stand construction; installing buttonholes and buttons; potentially matching plaids or stripes
This four-session class includes twelve hours of instruction, and will focus on construction. However, coming to the first session with a bodice-only muslin, will allow you to get help from your instructor to refine the bodice fit.
This class is Level III. See information about our class levels here.
