Advanced Bodice Fitting :: The Upton
Are you wanting the perfect bodice block you can use over and over again, but intimidated by flat pattern drafting? This class is for you!
We are going to use the Upton Dress from Cashmerette (available in sizes 0-32) as a starting point to create the perfect-fitting bodice that you can use to create any style of top, blouse, or dress. You will have time in class to complete a top or dress using your finished bodice.
- Pre-requisite: You have completed several garments on your own, and are familiar with basic bodice construction.
- Project: You will leave with a bodice block customized to fit you, plus potentially a finished top or dress.
- Materials: For the first class session, you only need the muslin, dark thread, and machine needles.
- The Upton pattern (included with registration)
- Swedish Tracing Paper
- 2 yards of muslin
- 18" nylon coil or invisible zipper for your muslin
- fashion fabric for your final garment (not needed on the first day)
- dark thread for your muslin, matching thread for your fashion fabric (100% polyester, all-purpose thread)
- universal sewing machine needles, size 80/12
- Prep work: Be prepared to try on your first muslin in the first class.
- Skills Learned: how to accurately take your measurements; how to choose your size; how to grade patterns and/or combine pattern sizes; how to manipulate darts and princess seams; how to translate darts into princess seams and vice versa; transferring muslin changes to your paper pattern; how to install an invisible zipper; how to manipulate your finished bodice block into any style top or dress.
This class is Level III. It is important that you already have a good understanding of sewing patterns and garment construction before taking this class. Please get in touch with us if you're not sure if this class is appropriate for you!
Classes are for adults 18+
Cancellation Policy : Any cancellations or changes to your registration must be done at least 72 hours prior to the class start date in order to be issued a class credit. Cancellations that are made less than 72 hours before the class start date and students who do not show up to class will forfeit their registration payment. No refunds will be given. By continuing with class registration, you acknowledge and agree to these terms.
