Intermediate Series Part 1 :: The Top

When you're ready to level up your garment-making skills, this series is a great next step! Over the course of five or six sessions, you'll be guided through making a complete outfit, while learning all kinds of garment construction tips and tricks from our experienced instructors. 

This class is part one of the series, where you'll make a top. 

This class is all about intermediate garment making skills, will require some homework, and moves at a fast pace. This is not a fitting class. 

**Please be sure of your schedule before registering, as these classes must be taken in order, and scheduling a make-up lesson before the next class can be difficult (class make-up lesson rate is $45/hour).**

• Pre-requisite: You have completed at least one garment on your own, and feel comfortable with machine sewing basics. 
• Projects: The Cielo Top from Closet Core Patterns, or the Tee Shirt from Merchant & Mills (a unisex pattern) 
• Materials included with class registration: 
  • Cielo Top or Unisex Tee Shirt patterns
  • Swedish Tracing Paper
• Additional Supplies Required: 
  • woven fabric and necessary notions, as noted in the patterns
  • universal machine needles size 80/12
  • matching thread (100% polyester all-purpose) 

• Prep-work: fabric washed and dried
• Skills learned: how fabric choice impacts the finished garment; selecting the correct size; pattern tracing; adjusting patterns for length; strategic pattern layout; sewing bust darts; inserting set-in sleeves; applying facings; constructing pockets; serging seam allowances; hemming techniques; and more.
• After completing this class, proceed to Intermediate Series 2 :: The Skirt or Intermediate Series 2 :: The Pants.
