Selfless Sewing :: Choose Your Own Adventure

Our Selfless Sewing Class is designed to give you an opportunity to make some great gifts for those on your holiday gift list. Of course, if you make something for yourself, we'll never tell!

In this class, you'll choose one of four projects to make: a mini card case/wallet, an infinity scarf, a mitered corner napkin, or a holiday stocking.

  

  

• Pre-requisite: You have completed our Beginner Series, or have equivalent sewing experience.
• Project: A mini card case or wallet with multiple slots and a snap closure. Perfect for gift cards!
• Materials needed: (pattern included with class registration)
  • two fat quarters (lightweight woven fabric approximately 22" x 18")
  • 1/2 yard lightweight fusible interfacing (Pellon SF101)
  • pearl snap
  • matching thread (100% all-purpose polyester)
  • universal machine sewing needles, size 80/12
• Skills learned: accurately cutting fabric, accurately measuring and marking using quilting rulers, applying interfacing, installing snaps.

• Pre-requisite: You have completed our Beginner Series, or have equivalent sewing experience.
• Project: An infinity scarf approximately 56" long and 9" wide
• Materials needed: This scarf can be made from woven or knit fabric, and from 1, 2, or 3 different fabrics. 
  • For a 1 color scarf: 1 1/4 yard
  • For a 2 color scarf: 3/4 yard of each fabric
  • For a 3 color scarf (like the image shown): 3/8 yard each of 2 contrasting fabrics, plus 3/4 yard for the lining
  • matching thread (100% polyester all purpose thread)
  • universal OR ballpoint/jersey machine sewing needles, size 80/12, depending on the fabric you pick.
• Skills learned: accurately cutting fabric, how to sew bias seams, an invisible finishing hand stitch.  

• Pre-requisite: You have completed our Beginner Series, or have equivalent sewing experience.
• Project: napkins (or hand towels, placemats, table runners, etc.), finished beautifully with mitered corners. 
• Materials needed:
  • at least 1/2 yard (total yardage depends on size of napkins and how many you want to make) of light to medium weight woven fabric, like linen, linen blends, quilting cottons, or lightweight canvas. 
  • matching thread (100% polyester all-purpose thread)
  • universal machine sewing needles, size 80/12
• Skills learned: cutting and hemming right angles, how to create mitered corners. 

• Pre-requisite: You have completed our Beginner Series, or have equivalent sewing experience.
• Project: A fully lined classic holiday stocking, ready to hang by your fireplace
• Materials needed: (for one stocking)   
  • 1/3 yard lightweight woven fabric for the body (quilting cotton or flannel is best)
  • 1/3 yard fabric for the lining
  • 1/4 yard fabric for the cuff
  • 1/2 yard fusible fleece (Pellon 987F)
  • matching thread (100% polyester all purpose thread)
  • universal machine sewing needles, size 80/12
• Skills learned: accurately cutting fabric, applying interfacing, sewing on curves 

Visit the shop to purchase everything you need for any of these projects. Depending on your experience level and how fast you work, you may have time to make more than one in class!

Classes are for adults 18+

Cancellation Policy : Registrations are non-refundable; no refunds will be given. Any cancellations or changes to your registration must be done at least 72 hours prior to the class start date in order to be issued a class credit. Cancellations that are made less than 72 hours before the class start date and students who do not show up to class will forfeit their registration payment. By continuing with class registration, you acknowledge and agree to these terms.
