Tools & Techniques :: Hand Embellishment with Couching
Use yarn, embroidery floss, and a little imagination to add embellishments to your clothes & accessories with the technique called couching!
- Pre-requisite: none; hand sewing or hand embroidery experience useful but not required.
- Project: self-guided embellishment of your items, with design and technique help from your instructor
- Materials needed:
- knit or woven fabric or finished item(s) to embellish
- embroidery floss (stranded, sashiko, or pearle floss)
- yarn (worsted weight or thicker)
- embroidery hoop (8" or bigger)
- embroidery needle
- optional: fusible interfacing
- Prep work: have a few embellishment ideas or possibilities in mind (sample shows a monogram and flower made from two strands of worsted weight yarn, stitched with 6-strand embroidery floss, on to lightweight wool sweater knit)
- Skills learned: hand embellishment using the couching technique

Classes are for adults 18+
Cancellation Policy : Registrations are non-refundable; no refunds will be given. Any cancellations or changes to your registration must be done at least 72 hours prior to the class start date in order to be issued a class credit. Cancellations that are made less than 72 hours before the class start date and students who do not show up to class will forfeit their registration payment. By continuing with class registration, you acknowledge and agree to these terms.
