Beginner Series - July 2024

Set yourself up for a successful start in sewing with our four part Beginner Series. Over the course of the series, spanning 11 hours of instruction, you will advance from basic sewing machine operation to sewing your first garment.

The series is made up of the following three classes, which can also be taken individually:

Session I : Machine Sewing :: A Primer , 2 hours. Includes guidance in selecting materials for Session II.

You will learn the anatomy of a sewing machine, the most useful stitches and functions, and will be ready to confidently begin your next sewing project.

We will complete a pin cushion, which will be useful in your future sewing endeavors.

Session II : Machine Sewing :: In Practice , 3 hours

The perfect follow-up to our Primer Class, this class will give you the opportunity to put into practice what you have learned.
In this three hour class, you will gain confidence using the rotary cutter, practice maintaining a consistent seam allowance, and do a bit of topstitching.

You will make a fully lined tote bag with cotton webbing straps.

Session III & Session IV : Garment Sewing :: An Introduction , 3 hours each

Learn frequently used sewing terminology and advance your sewing skills, all while making a comfy pair of pajama pants.
You will learn: how to read a commercial sewing pattern, how to select the correct size, pattern tracing, marking, and cutting, laying out pattern pieces on fabric, cutting fabric, seam finishing, creating an elastic casing, hemming.

Classes are for adults 18+.  We offer individual lessons for those younger.
