In this 5-week class, you'll learn the ins and outs of making a well-fitted button down shirt. This class requires 3 - 4 hours of prep-work, which includes sewing a muslin, so that we can make fit adjustments during the first session. Once you have a satisfactory muslin, you'll begin working on your shirt, complete with plackets, cuffs, and collar.
Depending on how long the muslin process takes, your shirt may require work outside of class-time, but we'll make sure to cover all the key construction points in class.

This class is suitable for both women's and men's patterns. For women's patterns, we suggest: the Classic Shirt from Liesl & Co, the Granvillle Shirt from Sewaholic, the Vernon Shirt from Cashmerette, or the Archer Button-Up from Grainline Studio. For men's patterns, we suggest: the All Day Shirt from Liesl & Co., the Fairfield from Thread Theory, the Yukon from Peek-a-Boo Patterns, or the Men's Shirt Maker's Express from Islander Sewing System.***

***A copy of the pattern is included in the class.  About two weeks before the class starts, we will contact all participants and ask you to choose your pattern.

Techniques learned in this class include basic bodice fitting adjustments, button plackets, sleeve plackets, and two piece collars.

This class is Level III, which means that you should be comfortable doing prep work before class, and possibly some work on your own between classes. Please make sure before you sign up that you will have time to complete the prep work. This sets you and the other students up for success!


Classes are for adults 18+.  We offer individual lessons for those younger.


All participants will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination in order to take this class.  Anyone who does not comply with this rule may be removed from the class without a refund.


Cancellation Policy : Any cancellations or changes to your registration must be done at least 72 hours prior to the date of the first session in order to be issued a class credit. Cancellations that are made less than 72 hours before the class start date and students who do not show up to class will forfeit their registration payment. By continuing with class registration, you acknowledge and agree to these terms.
